Joseph J. Zdanowicz

Joseph J. Zdanowicz of Riverhead died Sept. 21 at the age of 87.

He was born Feb. 19, 1924, in Jamesport, to Margaret (Sznick) and Paul Zdanowicz, and worked as a foreman for the Town of  Riverhead Sewer District.

He loved growing vegetables and flowers in his garden, and took pride in his beautiful roses. He loved Polish food, and doted on his grandson, nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by his wife, Stella, in 2001, he is survived by his daughter, Barbara Szczepanik of Riverhead; his sisters, Stella Griffin of Florida and Evelyn Painter of North Carolina; his grandson, Scott T. Szczepanik II; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will take place Friday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead, Father Robert Kuznik officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
