Riverhead Column: Don’t miss Middle Masques’ car wash Saturday

The Riverhead Middle Masques will hold a car wash on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Middle School. Monies raised will help offset the cost of their January production of “Grease.” Do stop by with your car, van or truck and help out the students. Be sure to say hello to Ed Tholl and Pat Skura, who always put their heart and soul into these productions at the school. The students do a phenomenal job with their acting, costumes and props.

Ron and Jane Caffrey, Donald and Pam Owen, Joe Bernat and Katelyn DeLucca, Richie and Kim Miller, Joey and Tracey Densieski, Kevin and Terri Barty, Laura and Kenny Nabrezny, Joe and Kathy Berezny (yours truly), John and June Behr, Kevin and Kerri Davis, Joe Hartmann and Jen Beliveau and Frank Totten and Lori Slanina took a five-day cruise together to Bermuda on Royal Caribbean’s Explorer of the Seas. The weather was exceptionally beautiful, the sightseeing awesome and all the activities on the ship and island were truly enjoyed by all. Each evening we gathered to have dinner together and chat about the day’s events. After a late dinner on the last evening of the cruise, we celebrated my birthday with a small chocolate cake presented by our waiter and everyone sang “Happy Birthday.” As we returned home and pulled into our driveway the next day, we noticed someone had sent me a beautiful rust-colored mum. I am curious as to who left it for me to enjoy as the rain had washed away their name on the card they nailed to a tree trunk. Thank you so much! Maybe one day you’ll reveal yourself.

The Riverhead Recreation Department has a very busy fall schedule, with programs for adults, youths, special events and bus trips to the city. Some have a nominal fee and some are free. The Riverhead Country Fair, held this past weekend, was a festive fall day that saw beautiful weather. I hope everyone had the chance to visit the vendors, see the crafts and enjoy the entertainment.

Congratulations to Lynn Ann and Wesley Sawyer on the birth of their daughter, Julia Katherine, Sept. 24. Julia weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and measured 20 inches. Lynn Ann is a 2004 graduate of Riverhead High School. Proud grandparents Wendy and Fred Mildner are very excited about their family’s new arrival.
