Southampton Blotter: Homeless woman charged with drug possession

A homeless woman was charged with drug possession and trespassing Sunday after Southampton Town Police found her in a Riverside house that she had been asked to leave.

Evelyn Cabral, 29, is accused of forcing entry into the Ash Street house in Riverside, which is in MacLeod’s mobile home park, and then refusing to leave when asked to do so by the homeowner, officials said. Police were called and she was arrested for trespassing. After that arrest, officers found her in possession of Xanax, an anti-anxiety medication, without a prescription, police said. Ms. Cabral was charged with second-degree criminal trespass and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

• A Calverton man who was a passenger in a car that was stopped for a traffic violation last Thursday afternoon on Nugent Drive in Riverside, got arrested himself when he interfered with the investigation, according to police.

Carl Ligon, 34, of Hillrise Avenue in Calverton refused to cooperate and resisted when he was told he was being arrested, to the point where an officer used pepper spray on him, according to police.

Mr. Ligon was charged with obstructing government administration. He was treated at Peconic Bay Medical Center for the pepper spray and then released for processing, police said.

• A Flanders man was arrested on a warrant last Monday in connection with a two-year-old burglary in his hometown, according to Southampton Town Police.

Albert Daniels, 31, was charged in a 2009 robbery where he allegedly stole $2,000 from a woman outside her Flanders home, Southampton Town Police said in a press release Tuesday afternoon. He was charged with grand larceny.

• Douglas Masterson, 48, of St. Petersburg, Fla., was charged with driving while intoxicated last Monday on Pine Street in Riverside, police said.

He was observed by police shutting off his lights and pulling over to the side of the road when an officer stopped to investigate and found that Mr. Masterson had alcohol on his breath and slurred speech, authorities said.

• Two thefts were reported at Peconic Mini Storage on Flanders Road in Riverside. On Oct. 1, someone broke the lock on a trailer there and removed $1,230 worth of power tools, while on Sept. 21 someone reported that someone had broken into three taxis that were stored there by Sam’s Taxi, broke the windows, and removed three Garmin GPS devices and three car batteries, according to police, who said the one battery cable had been cut in order to remove the battery.

The gate to the facility, which is normally locked after 8 p.m., had been broken during this time and had been open for several days, police said. The estimated value of the GPS units is $600, while the batteries were valued at $225, according to police.

• Two windows were smashed on two different cars parked at the same home on Riverside Avenue in Flanders early Sunday. Police later arrested Edwin Espana, 30, of Maple Avenue, Flanders on domestic incident, and he admitted to smashing the windows, according to police, who said the incidents constituted fourth-degree criminal mischief.

Mr. Espana was observed at the location by witnesses, police said. The estimated value of the damage was $600 for one car and $200 for the other, according to police.

• Graffiti was reported to have been spray-painted on the flagpole, scorer’s booth and bathroom at Iron Point Park in Flanders Sept. 23, as well as on the Garden Deli on Flanders Road in Flanders on Oct. 2, according to police.

A man wearing dark shorts, a gray hooded sweatshirt and carrying a dark backpack was captured on a surveillance video making graffiti on the Garden Deli on Sept. 16, according to police.

• A car stereo valued at $500 was reported stolen from an unlocked car on Priscilla Avenue in Flanders last Tuesday.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
