Police: Flanders man beat acquaintance with a wood bat

A Flanders man is facing an assault charge after beating another man with a wood bat in the parking lot of a Riverside gas station Saturday night, authorities said.

Isidro De Leon Galindo, 22, struck the 29-year-old victim from behind just before 8 p.m. at the Valero gas station at the intersection of Peconic Avenue and Flanders Road, State Police said. The victim, also from Flanders, suffered lacerations and swelling and was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead via ambulance.

Troopers said the men knew each other, but did not say what caused the fight.

Mr. De Leon Galindo was charged with second-degree assault. He was held overnight for an appearance in Southampton Town Justice Court and remanded to the Suffolk County jail in Riverside.
