Today in sports: Mercy v-ball heads to Port Jeff

In its regular season finale this afternoon at Port Jefferson, the McGann-Mercy girls volleyball team will look to wrap up a spot in the postseason.

Both teams come into today’s match with a 5-6 record in League VIII. Both teams are Class C teams. So the winner will earn a spot into the playoffs.

Mercy comes into today having won two of its three previous matches, including a crucial 3-2 victory over The Stony Brook School Monday. Kaylin Hammond led the team with 15 kills and 15 aces.

The Monarchs faced Port Jefferson at home earlier this season and won in four games.

The Class C playoffs are scheduled to begin a week from today.
