The Weekend Guide: Fundraising for the Trincas, a skating extravaganza and the Snowflake Regatta returns

The annual Snow Flake Regatta will once again kick off on the Peconic River in downtown Riverhead Sunday. The day-long event starts at 8 with the last heat at 2:50 p.m. Rowers travel east from downtown along a 3,200-meter course that runs under the County Road 105 bridge and back.

A fundraiser will be held Saturday from 7 until 11 p.m. at the Riverhead Moose Lodge on Madison Street in Riverhead to benefit the Trinca family of Manorville. The event costs $25 to attend and includes a buffet dinner, Chinese auction and a live band. Jay Trinca, a Riverhead Raceway regular, lost his wife Keri and young son Jason in a car crash in October.

The musical ‘Hello, Dolly’ by the Riverhead Faculty and Community Theatre at Riverhead High School continues this weekend. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $12 advance, call 725-2009 or [email protected], $15 at door; ages 17 and under $5 at door. 744-2976. In honor of Veterans Day, veterans receive complimentary admission with adult ticket purchased.

The Riverhead Skate Park Extreme Extravaganza 2011 will be held this weekend starting at 2 p.m. Saturday in Stotzky Park. The first-ever scooter competition will be held at 6 p.m. with skateboarding jam session under the lights for competitors ages 13 and over. All registrations must be in advance; entry fee is $15 per contest. Call 727-5744 for contest details. The fun continues Sunday at 1 p.m. and concludes at 4 p.m. Editor’s note: This event was cancelled.

A Peconic Bay Scallop Dinner will be held 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Hanff’s Boatyard in Greenport. Proceeds will benefit the Greenport American Legion Building Fund. Donation is $25; with limited tickets available from Greenport Legionnaires and Costello Marine Contracting.

A chili cook-off and tasting will be held at First Universalist Church in Southold Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The entry fee is $7 and includes a variety of chilis: beef, turkey, vegetarian, spicy or mild, plus cornbread. Beverages and desserts will be available for sale. Call 734-2616 for more info. Proceeds help buy needed bedding and supplies for the church’s program of hosting Maureen’s Haven.
