Cops: Mastic woman drove high, hit a stop sign

A Mastic woman hit a stop sign near a Riverside trailer park while allegedly driving on drugs Friday morning, authorities said.

Southampton Town Police received a call about 8:40 a.m. of a car driving erratically near the intersection of Flanders Road and County Road 105. Police stopped that car, driven by 50-year-old Patricia Gerle, moments later on Riverside Drive in Riverhead. There was damage to her front bumper, which police determined was caused when she hit a stop sign outside MacLeod’s mobile home park in Riverside, officials said.

Ms. Gerle was also found with oxycontin pills without a prescription, authorities said.

She was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and leaving the scene of an accident.
