Flanders Road closed for three hours following single-car accident

Flanders Road in Riverside was closed for more than three hours and crews had to cut power to the area for about 30 minutes after a woman slammed into a utility pole Friday afternoon, Southampton Town Police said.

A 57-year-old woman from Flanders was driving a 1994 Chevrolet Caprice on Flanders Road about 4:30 p.m. when she lost control and slammed into the utility pole near the intersection with Ludlam Avenue, police said. The accident broke the pole into three parts and there were live wires down.

The woman, who was helped by a passing driver, was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead by ambulance for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Flanders Road was closed from County Road 105 to the Riverside traffic circle as Long Island Power Authority crews repaired the line. Power was also cut in the area for about 30 minutes as crews worked.

Southampton Town Police said no charges are expected to be filed.
