Riverhead ignites downtown holiday bonfire

The 12th annual Riverhead Town BID sponsored bonfire and caroling began at 4 pm on the Peconic riverfront Saturday afternoon. The holiday songs were spun by Phil Schmitt ‘Make Some Noise DJ’. Free hot chocolate with whipped cream was served by BID volunteers. A platter of cookies put out disappeared in minutes. Santa arrived by a decorated and lighted boat on the Peconic River captained by John O’Connor  and Duane Lewin of Aquebogue just after 5 p.m. . Santa used his ‘magic dust’ to light the Christmas tree and then posed for photos and listened to children’s wishes in the newly created Gingerbread House by artist Matt Targon of Calverton.
