Police: Greenport car thief found in Riverhead

A Greenport man was arrested after he stole a vehicle in East Marion and was found a day later by Riverhead Town Police,  authorities said.

Jason Mealy, 34, allegedly took the vehicle from a home on The Cross Way in East Marion without permission about 1 p.m. Monday. He was found the following day in Riverhead by Riverhead Town Police.

Mr. Mealy was charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of stolen property. It was not immediately clear why he is facing a weapons charge.

Police did not provide further details.
