A grand opening ceremony was held Thursday for the new Riverhead Lowe’s store on Route 58, which has actually been open since last Thursday.

At the event, attended by Town Board members and others, Marcus Lewis, the store’s general manager presented the Riverhead Fire Department, represented by Chief Nick Luparella, with a check for $1,000 from Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation.

Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter promised Mr. Lewis that this store would be one of Lowe’s biggest performers, based on the success that other stores have had in Riverhead. The Lowe’s store was built on the same parcel where the former Suffolk Life Newspapers building once stood.

The Suffolk Life building was demolished earlier last year.
