Main Road in Jamesport closed due to gas main rupture

Main Road between Washington Avenue and Manor Lane in Jamesport has been closed for the past two hours due to a rupture in a nearby gas main, fire officials said.

An employee of the Jamesport Liquor Store smelled the gas just after 5 p.m. Thursday and notified authorities. National Grid workers, as well as the Jamesport Fire Department, are on the scene.

Fire officials did not say what caused the break.

Meanwhile, eastbound traffic is being diverted south down Washington Avenue.
