Cops: Man trying to flee police found hiding under bed

A Riverhead man was arrested by Southampton cops Jan. 2 after he was found hiding under a bed in a Hampton Bays home by a police K-9 Unit. The man was attempting to flee officers, who were arresting him on numerous warrants, police said.

Robert Dozier, 28, was wanted for first-degree criminal contempt, a felony, in connection with an incident at a Hampton Bays home on Dec. 20, a Riverhead Police warrant for assault and resisting arrest, and a New York State parole violation warrant, authorities said. He was spotted by police the same home on Canal Street at about 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, police said.

To escape the police, Mr. Dozier fled back into the home, according to a police report. The Suffolk County Sheriff’s K-9 was called to the scene and found Mr. Dozier hiding under the furniture, police said.

Mr. Dozier was held overnight, arraigned at Southampton Town Justice Court and was remanded to the Suffolk County Jail.
