Cops: Flanders woman charged in hit-and-run crash after leaving plate behind

A Flanders woman was arrested Tuesday night after she fled the scene of a crash but left her license plate behind, Southampton Town Police said.

Dorely Hernandez, 21, was involved in a two-car crash at the corner of Mecox Road and Mountauk Highway in Watermill shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday, police said. She then fled the scene in her car and drove home.

What she might not have realized was that her license plate fell off in the crash, enabling police to locate her.

She was issued an appearance ticket for Southampton Town Justice Court and released.
