Francis X. Gassert

Francis X. Gassert of Jamesport died on February 6, 2012. He was 85 years old.

He was born in New York City on December 8, 1926, to Francis and Mary (Dugan) Gassert.

During World War II, he proudly served with the U.S. Navy. He later enjoyed a 30-year career with LILCO.

Formerly of Garden City, he moved to the North Fork in 1993. He enjoyed history and western movies, reading and tinkering around the home. Family members recalled his patriotism.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Estelle (née Banks), whom he married on June 10, 1950; two sons, Kevin and James (Joan) Gassert; and two grandsons, Matthew and Steven Gassert.

Calling hours took place February 9 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Mattituck, where parish prayer services were conducted by Deacon Jeff Sykes. The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 10 at Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Cutchogue by Msgr. John Nosser, with the assistance of the Ministry of Consolation. Interment was at Calverton National Cemetery, with Naval Honors.
