All three Shoreham-Wading River wrestlers closed out their season as all-state finishers at the 50th annual New York State Championship in Albany Saturday.

Junior T.J. Fabian and senior Zak Mullen placed fourth and senior John Keck was fifth.

Fabian won three matches in the wrestlebacks at 120 before falling in his final match against Sayville junior Matt Leshinger, 2-1, in double overtime. It was the fourth time this year the two faced each other. Fabian won in the league finals but lost in the county finals and the state consolation final.

Mullen lost in the semifinals to Tyler Grimaldi of Half Hollow Hills West at 160. It was the third time he lost to Grimaldi this season, including the county finals. Mullen won his first wrestleback before losing to Frank Affronti of Wayne for third/fourth.

Keck lost for the second time this year by one point against Nick Hall of Longwood in the semifinals at 152. He dropped to the wrestlebacks where he was shockingly pinned by Ryan Bedross late in the match while leading 5-0. Keck got caught in an unorthodox, desperation move by Bedross and couldn’t get off his back in time.

He came back to wrestle for fifth/sixth and won against Cristian Masaya, the same wrestler he defeated in the quarterfinals.
