Four Riverhead teens nabbed on burglary charges in Mattituck

Four Riverhead teenagers were arrested early Friday in connection with a series of burglaries in Mattituck, police said.

John Purpura, 18, of Jamesport, Brandon Coscia, 18, of Jamesport, Daniel J. Trimper, 18, of Riverhead, and Maria Schafer, 18, of Riverhead are facing felony burglary charges after they were pulled over for a routine traffic stop about 12:45 a.m., according to a Southold Town Police report.

Police said an officer stopped the car and then noticed what appeared to be stolen property in the vehicle An investigation revealed two summer homes in the Park Avenue Extension area of Mattituck had recently been burglarized, officials said. Burglaries had been attempted at three other residences as well, police said.

The four teenagers were each charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools.

They were held overnight and face arraignment Friday in Southold Town Justice Court, according to a police report.
