Consumer Reports: Peconic Bay tops some of NYC’s best in patient safety

New York City media this week reported on the disappointing news that many of its most highly renowned hospitals scored poorly on a Consumer Reports study measuring patient safety at the facilities.

But buried in the news reports was the great showing of a community hospital on Long Island’s East End, Peconic Bay Medical Center, which was second overall in the study.

Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead scored 12 percent better than average, second only to St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn.

“We looked at four key measures of patient safety: hospital-acquired infections, readmissions, and how well hospital staff communicate with patients about medications and discharge planning,” read the Consumer Reports story posted this week. “We then combined those Ratings into an overall safety score.”
