Police News: Pulled over for DWI with child in the car

Southampton Town Police charged a woman with driving while intoxicated with her 5-year-old child in the vehicle in
Flanders early this morning.

Christiene Dacosta, 34, of Flanders was driving southbound on Flanders Road near Long Neck Boulevard when police stopped her at about 3:45 a.m. for failing to maintain her lane of travel.

Dacosta was determined to have been driving under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest, police said.
She was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child, a felony under Leandra’s Law, as well
as endangering the welfare of a child and other Vehicle & Traffic Law violations.

Police said Sunday morning that she was being held for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court. The child was released to family members. Child Protective Services was notified.
