Woman, cat appear OK after rollover crash at LIE exit ramp

AUL SQUIRE PHOTO | The driver of this SUV escaped injury when the vehicle rolled over and landed back on its wheels at the Exit 73 ramp of the LIE.

Both a woman and her cat escaped injury Friday in a rollover crash along the Long Island Expressway’s Exit 73 ramp.

There were no passengers involved in the 2:45 p.m. single-vehicle accident in Riverhead, but there was a crated cat in the silver Nissan Xterra SUV that flipped, officials said.

The woman was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center for precautionary reasons. The cat appeared to be OK.

The driver was headed east when she took the turn too tight and  the SUV rolled over, landing back on its wheels, Riverhead Police said. The SUV’s roof and hood was damaged and its front windshield shattered.

The driver’s father soon arrived on scene and picked up the cat.
