Helen Elizabeth Hurley

Helen Elizabeth Hurley died Feb. 29 at her home in Wading River. She was 91.

Family members said she had fought a long and courageous battle with vascular dementia and its complications.

Born in 1920 in Connecticut, she had lived in the Wading River area since 1955. She loved the rural lifestyle, farm stands and Long Island Sound, according to family.

Predeceased by her husband, Gordon E. Hurley Jr., and a granddaughter, she is survived by her children, Alan, Benjamin, Joan Doucette and Jean Blackwell, and two grandchildren.

Services were held March 2 at Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River. Interment followed at Calverton National Cemetery.
