Fall, car crash send 4 people to area hospitals Monday

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | Emergency crews watch as a fall victim is flown from Riverhead to Stony Brook University Medical Center for precautionary reasons.

A man was airlifted to an area hospital after he was injured in a fall Monday afternoon and three people — including an infant — were hospitalized an hour later in a two-car accident in Riverhead, police said.

Police said they received a call at 1:24 p.m. requesting assistance for an injured man near East Coast Nurseries on Reeves Avenue in Riverhead. Police did not disclose the nature of the injury or the victim’s identity.

A Suffolk County Police helicopter landed in a field north of the nursery while Riverhead firefighters set up a landing zone and Riverhead ambulance volunteers treated the victim. Police at the scene said the man was not as seriously injured as originally suspected.

He was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital as a precaution.

At about 2:30 p.m, two adults and an infant were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center after they were involved in a two-car accident at the corner of Roanoke and East Main Street downtown.

The three victims suffered non-life threatening injuries and were still being evaluated as of  4:15 p.m., hospital officials said.

The vehicles were towed from the scene and no tickets were issued as a result of the accident, police said.
