Virginia McGoey

Virginia “Ginny” McGoey passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012, after a long battle with cancer. She was 86.

Ginny was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Brooklyn, raised in Queens and moved to Riverhead in 1953 after marrying J. Russell McGoey, a Riverhead police officer. Together for 27 years, they raised three sons, John, of Viera, Fla., Edward, of Wheaton, Ill., and Russell, of Quogue, N.Y.

Ginny worked as a technical librarian for Grumman Aerospace in Calverton for many years and, in 1991, retired and moved to Sarasota, Fla. After 14 wonderful years in Florida, Ginny packed up and moved near her family in Wheaton, Ill.

Predeceased by her husband in 1980, Ginny is survived by her three sons, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two nephews.

At her request, Ginny was cremated in West Chicago and laid to rest with her husband, during a private Mass and burial at St. John’s Cemetery in Riverhead, N.Y., on March 16, 2012.
