Riverhead firefighters doused a small brush fire that burned a woman’s gardening supplies at a Phillips Lane property Wednesday morning.

The fire started at about 9:30 a.m. in a storage area outside where the owner of the property keeps her potting soil and other greenhouse supplies, according to fire officials.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control before windy conditions caused the fire to spread. Flanders Fire Department had been on standby during the fire, but were not called to the scene. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

No one was hurt in the fire and there was no structural damage to the owner’s home or her greenhouses nearby. The owner, who said she’d experienced fires before, said this fire was relatively minor.

“You can always replace [the supplies],” she said.
