Stanley Zambriski

Lifelong Riverhead resident Stanley Zambriski died March 30 at his home. He was 85.

He was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Riverhead to Leon and Mary (Fafinski) Zambriski. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946, after which he became a foreman with the Town of Riverhead Water District.

He was a 60-year member of the Riverhead Fire Department and an honorary ex-captain of Eagle Hose Company No. 4. He also belonged to the Ironmen Drill Team and the Fire Prevention Committee. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, golf and eating crabs, according to family members.

Mr. Zambriski’s first and second wives, Stella and Ann, predeceased him, as did his son, Stanley. He is survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer; his stepchildren, Thomas, Joseph, Michael and Linda Madigan; 10 step-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours are set for Monday, April 2, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 3, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Isidore R.C. Church in Riverhead. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
