Woman airlifted to hospital after single-car crash
A woman was airlifted to Stony Brook University Medical Center following a single-car accident at the corner of Northville Turnpike and East Avenue Friday night.
The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m. when a car driven by Mary Hattorff, 48, of Riverhead, was heading south on Northville Turnpike when she lost control of the car.
The car crashed through a fenced area where a house was recently demolished on the southeast corner of the intersection, Riverhead police said. The car then came to rest on a utility pole wire on East Avenue.
Ms. Hattorff was the sole occupant of the car. She was treated at the scene by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance personnel and transported to the Riverhead High School parking lot, where she was airlifted to Stony Brook by a Suffolk County police helicopter, according to a police report.
An update on her condition was not immediately available.
