Sports Briefs: Little Leaguer throws perfect game … and more

LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL: The perfect start Nick Ruisi, a 10-year-old pitcher, threw a perfect game for the Mets in a 1-0 Riverhead Little League boys majors season-opening win over the Cardinals on April 17. Ruisi had 10 strikeouts (three with batters looking at the called third strike) in addition to inducing six groundouts and two flyouts. He threw 56 pitches in the six-inning game.

TENNIS: Recognition for Walker, May Singles players Eileen Walker of Cutchogue and John May of Southold will be among those Suffolk County tennis players recognized for their on-court achievements by the U.S. Tennis Association Long Island region at its 22nd annual awards dinner on May 9.
