Live musical entertainment set for Tall Ships event

When the tall ships sail into Greenport Harbor later this month, there will be music and entertainment on the shore.

The Village Board approved several resolutions last week regarding the Tall Ships of America event, scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. Among them were approving a $2,350 contract with JC Productions to provide sound services and a $5,000 contract for live musical entertainment.

The village has also entered into a an agreement with Tall Ships of America to prohibit local vendors from selling merchandise carrying the phrase “Tall Ships.”

Still in the works are a village request that the state Liquor Authority lift the open container law during Memorial Day weekend and a joint ticket sale agreement with the Long Island Rail Road.

The event’s perimeters have also been established: Front Street from Third Street to Main Street and Main Street from its south end to Center Street will both be closed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 26, 27 and 28.

The village is offering an advance-sale price on tickets to tour six ships: $7 for adults and $5 for seniors, with no charge for children under 12. The cost of full-price tickets has yet to be determined.
