Dozens of Riverhead kids showed their bike-riding skills on Saturday morning at the annual Riverhead Police Athletic League’s Bike Rodeo in Stotzky Park.

Forty-eight children participated in the event, which was coordinated by Lt. Rick Boden who was assisted by Officer Jill Kubetz, has been held there for more than 30 years. It features seven stations  to test kids’ skills for bike safetey: mount and dismount, circling and changing direction, stopping ability, weaving and maneuvering, straight-line control, short-radius turning and slow speed control.

The Riverhead PAL purchased nine bikes that were awarded for best effort, first-place boy and first-place girl in three age groups. There were also gift cards of $25 and $50 and tickets to Atlantis Marine World.
