Riverhead senior Jalyn Brown was selected to a list of the top 50 players in New York from the 2011-12 season by the Basketball Coaches Association of New York.

Brown was one of six players from Section XI selected to the list, which includes athletes from New York City, Catholic, private and public schools.

A first-team All-Long Island guard, Brown helped lead the 23-2 Blue Waves to their first Long Island Championship and trip to the state semifinals. Brown averaged 16.2 points per game and 4.4 assists during the regular season.

She recorded her 1,000th career point in the Blue Waves’ first playoff win against Patchogue-Medford. She is one of four players in school history to surpass 1,000 career points. Teammate Shanice Allen became the fourth in the Blue Waves’ county championship win over Hauppauge.

Brown will continue her hoops career next year at LIU Post.

Other Section XI players honored were: Colleen Ames (Lindenhurt), Megan Doherty (Sachem East), Emma Klis (John Glenn), Val Oyakhilome (Lindenhurst) and Alison McKenna (John Glenn).
