Update: The driver of the Camaro that went airborne Wednesday evening over Dennis Court has been by police as identified as Jose Luis Andino Rodriguez. He was arrested for driving while intoxicated, police said. His age and address were not immediately available from police.

A red Chevy Camaro went airborne over Dennis Court in Riverhead Wednesday and crashed into a bush on the side of a house on Nadel Drive, sending both the car’s occupants to the hospital, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Police said the driver will face charges, but the charges weren’t specified.

At about 5 p.m., the Camaro was heading south on Nadel Drive at a high rate of speed, according to police and neighbors, and hit the curb just before the intersection of Nadel and Dennis Court. This sent the car airborne to the point that it completely flew over Dennis Court and hit the bush on the side of the house without leaving any skid marks on the lawn.

There were skid marks on the Nadel Drive north of the curb that the car hit.

The occupant of the car who was in the front passenger seat hit the windshield, police said. Neither had life threatening injures, although both were taken to nearby Peconic Bay Medical Center, officials said.

Witnesses said the driver attempted to flee, but was caught by police.
