Wading River held its annual Duck Pond Day Sunday afternoon at ponds off North Country Road and Zophar Mills Road. The day featured vendors, music, a parade and classic cars.

Second-grader from the nearby Wading River Elementary  have undertaken a class project to try and “breathe life back into a our Duck Ponds.”

The kids, who want to educate the public on the importance of a healthy ecosystem at the Duck Ponds, were handing out pamphlets to their effect.

Town officials have a similar goal. One of the duck ponds is in the process of being dredged by Brookhaven Town for the first time since 1992.

Ironically, the one thing not seen at Duck Pond Day Sunday was ducks. Just a swan and a couple of geese.
