Cops: Two grown men target 11-year-old in Riverhead bike robbery

Two men were arrested after they allegedly threw a full can of beer at an 11-year-old child, knocked him down and stole his bike Sunday night in Riverhead, police said.

Leonardo Monroy-Hult, 36, of Riverhead and 41-year-old Froilan Nij were both charged with second-degree robbery after they were caught by police near the scene of the alleged crime, police said.

The victim was riding his bike on Harrison Avenue near the middle school about 8:45 p.m. when two men threw a full beer can at him, knocking him to the ground, police said. The men then reportedly held the boy down and stole his bicycle, fleeing down the street.

The victim told responding officers that he saw the men run into a yard on Harrison Avenue.

Mr. Nij and Mr. Monroy-Hult were found by police soon after in the yard, police said. Cops also found the boy’s bike.

Mr. Monroy-Hult was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and a town code violation for an open container of alcohol, according to court records.

Bail was set for the two men at $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond, court records show.
