RECAP: Town Board to move forward with Calverton dog park

News-Review reporter Tim Gannon reported live Thursday from the Riverhead Town Board public work session.

The board decided to move forward with a code amendment relating to the EPCAL dog park, stating that dogs can not go on town bathing beaches. The board plans to approve the amendment at Tuesday’s Town Board meeting.

The definition of dog park and the authorization for a dog park permit are included in a new section of the town’s code dealing with beaches and parks. Ambiguous language in the code has been preventing the much-anticipated dog park in Calverton — the town’s first — from opening to the public.
