New Tex-Mex restaurant opens doors in downtown Riverhead

New downtown restaurant Blue Agave has a standard Tex-Mex menu of fajitas, burritos, tacos and quesadillas. But it’s the unique sauces that owner Ken Loo hopes will make Blue Agave stand out.

“A lot of people wish there was new food,” Mr. Loo said. “I wanted to try new combinations of sauces, pairing fruits and vegetables. Something that people haven’t tried before.”

The restaurant, which features exotic, fresh toppings like strawberry peach kiwi, mango papaya and mango cucumber salsa, opened on West Main Street behind Haiku at 5 p.m. tonight.

“My favorite right now is the Avocado Tomato Corn salsa,” said Mr. Loo, who also owns Hy Ting and Haiku. “It’s nice and creamy.”

In addition to Mexican cuisine, Blue Agave serves soft drinks and beer (they will begin to serve wines next month). All menu items on the menu are for under $10, including the build-your-own-taco option.

Blue Agave will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Mr. Loo said.
