LIVE: SWR defense shuts down Bronxville in 11-2 victory; state finals next

Shoreham-Wading River is one win away from a state title.

The Wildcats put on a defensive clinic against Bronxville Wednesday afternoon at Hofstra University, running away with an 11-2 victory in the Class C state semifinals. Shoreham did not allow a goal until 2:47 remained in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats were bidding for the first shutout in program history.

Shoreham advances to play Penn Yan Saturday morning at Middletown High School for the state title.

Senior Trevor Brosco scored three goals with two assists for Shoreham. Senior James Higgins scored three with one assist.

The Wildcats led 3-0 at halftime before erupting for two quick goals 18 second apart early in the third quarter. They added two more in the quarter to take a 7-0 lead into the fourth. Shoreham led 10-0 before the Broncos scored their first goal.

The Wildcats will play for their third state title and first since 2007.
