Run for it! RHS kids partake in annual water fight

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | Riverhead high school kids celebrate their freedom with a water fight.

Hundreds of Riverhead High School students got out their water guns and buckets of balloons for the annual year-end water balloon fight in the school parking lot Friday afternoon.

The water balloon fight, a school tradition, started after the final bell rang. Students ran to the school lot and grabbed water balloons, silly string and squirt guns.

Before long, the parking lot was a hailstorm of balloons flying back and forth.

Some students filled their balloons with flour, while others drove around the parking lot on the back of pickup trucks, tossing out balloons from the coolers in back.

Security guards were on scene during the water balloon fight to make sure everyone stayed safe. By 3 p.m., the students were drenched and began heading home.
