Future big leaguers facing off on the diamond in Riverhead

BARBARAELLEN KOCH PHOTO | Riverhead Athletics coach Patrick Cuccio tells J.D. Davide of Aquebogue that he will be the starting pitcher.

Stotzky Park in Riverhead served as host to the Future Big Leaguers Tournament Series this weekend, where local Little League and travel teams are getting the chance to compete against teams from far and wide while wearing replica Major League Baseball Uniforms.

The Riverhead Athletics, coached by 15-year-old Patrick Cuccio and John Davide, began the day Saturday by playing the Island Trees (Bethpage-Levittown) Red Sox on the Ron Schmitt field.

the Yankees, another travel team from the North Fork, also played in the tournament.

Players range from 8 to 11 years old. The tournament continues today and into tomorrow.
