The Peconic River divides Riverhead from Southampton Town. So it’s the perfect place for the two town supervisors to get into carboard boats and have a race.

The perfect place, so long as you’re not Sean Walter. The Riverhead Town Supervisor fell to 1-2 in the annual race Sunday, finishing a distant second to Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst.

The News-Review was there to capture it all for your enjoyment.

Don’t forget to check back Monday for a complete list of winners and photos from all the Third annual Riverhead Cardboard Boat Races, and read Thursday’s paper for even more coverage.

GRANT PARPAN PHOTOS | Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter was rowing in the wrong direction at this point in his bid to beat Southampton Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst in the annual Riverhead Cardboard Boat Race.

Mr. Walter concedes defeat in an interview with event emcee Anthony Coates after the race.

Ms. Throne-Holst was a blur as she crossed the finish line in her Flanders Flames boat, built by the Flanders Fire Department.

Ms. Throne Holst thanked the Flanders FD in her victory address Sunday.
