Three people were hospitalized with minor injuries Sunday afternoon after an SUV ran a stop sign and slammed into a sedan in Calverton, police said.

A red Suzuki XL-7 was traveling southbound on Toomey Avenue when it drove through a stop sign and collided with a silver Toyota Camry heading east on Manor Road about 1:15 p.m., police at the scene said.

Riverhead firefighters were called to the scene to cut away parts of the SUV to free the two victims, a husband and wife, inside the vehicle. They were taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center to be treated.

The woman driving in the silver sedan was also taken to PBMC for treatment of minor injuries.

No tickets or citations have been issued, police said.
