Downtown Riverhead already buzzing on eve of triathlon

BARBARAELLEN KOCH PHOTO | Larry Goats of Philadelphia will be supporting his girlfriend Bianca Martorella, 36, of New York City as she competes in her first triathlon tomorrow. She said she competed in a mini-mighty man in Eisenhower Park in April and will be competing in another race in Sag Harbor in September.

Things were already picking up downtown Saturday afternoon as athletes arrived to pick up their pre-race packets at the EventPowerLI tent for the inaugural ‘Riverhead Rocks’ triathlon Sunday morning.

The event is sponsored by the Riverhead BID, Apple Honda, Bridgehampton Bank, PBMC Health and the Riverhead Project.

Some of the “pop-up stores” already had their doors open Saturday afternoon, including GG’s Cupcakes, North Fork Animal Welfare League, Bridgehampton Bank and the Long Island Wine Council.
