Blotter: Vandals damage more than three dozen mailboxes

• More than three dozen mailboxes were damaged across Aquebogue, Jamesport and Northville some time Friday night or Saturday morning, according to a police blotter report.

Town police received 38 complaints from residents on Trout Brook Lane, Shade Tree Lane, Linda Avenue, Herricks Lane and Sound Shore Road stating their mailboxes had been damaged by unknown people, according to the reports. Police could not say if all the damage was the work of the same vandals.

• Ronald Hansen, 61, was arrested July 24 and charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. He was processed and released without bail.

• Brian Anderson, 47, of Eastport was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny after he allegedly took wedding or engagement rings worth $1,500, police said. He was arrested after surrendering to police, who located him after an investigation, according to a police report. He was processed and released without bail.

• Warren Keane, 49, of Shoreham was arrested July 25 after damaging a tree in his neighborhood with his vehicle, according to Suffolk County police. Mr. Keane was driving a van along Highland Down in Shoreham July 23 at around 4:40 p.m. when he “drove over a tree,” police said. No injuries were reported. Mr. Keane was charged with criminal mischief, officials said.

Those who are named in police reports have not been convicted of any crime or violation. The charges against them may later be reduced or withdrawn, or they may be found innocent.
