Evangeline T. Flynn of Riverhead, formerly of Flushing, died Sept. 1 at the age of 84.
Born Jan. 31, 1928, in Riverhead to Evangeline and Reginald Whalen, she attended Lady Cliff College in Highland Falls, N.Y., and earned a master’s degree in elementary education from St. John’s University in Queens. She was a teacher at St. Fidelis School in College Point, Queens.
Ms. Flynn was a longtime summer resident of the Sound Shore Club in Wading River, where she enjoyed the beach and Long Island Sound with cherished friends and family. She loved reading and snowbirding in Englewood Beach, Fla.
Predeceased by her husband, Edward J. Flynn Sr., in 2010, Ms. Flynn is survived by her children, Edward J. Jr. (Mary) of New Hyde Park, Carol Hotchkiss (Edwin) of Robinsville, N.J., and Janet O’Neill (Edward) of Riverhead; her sister Judith Peterson of Virginia; her brother, Paul Whalen of Florida; and her grandchildren, Colleen, Eddie, Maureen, Brian, Katie, Ed and Danny. She was also predeceased by her sister Patricia Singleton.
Visiting hours will take place Tuesday, Sept. 4, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Wading River. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
