Theresa Brzozowski

Lifelong Riverhead resident Theresa Brzozowski died Sept. 4 at home. She was 86.

She was born Oct. 20, 1925, in Passaic, N.J., to Victor and Mary Brzozowski. Her family moved to Polish Town in Riverhead when she was 2 years old, and she graduated from Riverhead High School in 1943. She worked for the New York Telephone Company for 43 years before retiring in 1987.

Ms. Brzozowski was a longtime member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, one of the largest volunteer organizations in the world at that time. She enjoyed crafting, including knitting, crocheting, tatting and other creative endeavors, and donated many of her crafted works to numerous local charities, according to family members.

She is survived by her sister, Florence Bollman of Sarasota, Fla., and many cousins.

Arrangements were handled by McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home in Riverhead. A private cremation ceremony will take place.

Ms. Brzozowski requested that donations may be made to the animal shelter of the donor’s choice.
