Sheila Land

Sheila Land died Aug. 26 at the age of 63.

She was born April 10, 1949, in Aquebogue to Irene and Joseph Bartlett Sr. and graduated from Riverhead High School. She earned a degree in social work from SUNY/Old Westbury and worked for the Head Start Program for 10 years. She later worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory for 25 years, retiring in 2010.

Ms. Land believed that children should be given the right start in life and saw to it that her children got a good education, according to family members. She loved to travel and was a source of encouragement to all who knew her, they said.

Predeceased by her son, Charles Banks, Ms. Land is survived by her daughter, Pamela Mosley; her sister, Alberta Price of Ocala, Fla.; her brothers, Joseph Bartlett Jr. of Riverhead, Carl Bartlett and Warren Booker III; six grandsons; and two great-grandsons.

Visiting hours and a service took place Sept. 1 at Galilee Church of God in Christ in Riverhead, Pastor Roy Pennon Sr. officiating. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
