Cops: Armed robbery at Spirit Halloween store

PAUL SQUIRE PHOTO | The Spirit Halloween store on Route 58 in Riverhead was robbed Saturday night.

Two men wearing masks robbed Spirit Halloween in Riverhead at gunpoint Saturday night, according to Riverhead Town police.

The manager of the Route 58 seasonal costume shop told police the unidentified men displayed handguns at around 9:50 p.m. and stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash registers, officials said.

The suspects then fled in a southerly direction across the parking lot, police said.

“The company is cooperating fully with the police and we’re very hopeful that the police will be able to determine who committed this crime,” said Kevin Mahoney, general counsel for Spencer Gifts, the parent company of Spirit Halloween.

Mr. Mahoney declined to disclose how much was stolen from the store. The store manager declined comment Monday morning.

Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to contact the Riverhead Police Department at (631) 727-4500.
