Minnie A. Richards

Minnie A. Richards of Southold died at San Simeon by the Sound nursing home on Nov. 29, 2012. She was 97 years old.

She was born Dec. 27, 1914, in Far Rockaway, N.Y., to Ethel F. (Brams) and Thomas J. Fitzgerald. She was a graduate of Lawrence High School and Browns Business School in Queens.

On Sept. 16, 1933, she married Stanley M. Richards at St. John’s Church in Far Rockaway and together they made their home in Garden City before moving to Southold 25 years ago. Minnie had been an executive secretary at St. John’s Episcopal Church for eight years and later at Doubleday & Company in Garden City.

Predeceased by her husband in 2003, her son, Stuart Morse Richards, in 2007 and her brother, Gerard R. Pilgrim, in 1986, she leaves her daughter, Miriam Lynne Richards of Southold; her nieces, Nancy Pearsall and Merri Lee Pearsall, both of Croton on Hudson, N.Y.; and her nephew, Gerard Pilgrim Jr. of Bellmore, N.Y.

The family received friends Dec. 3 at DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold, where prayer services were conducted by the Rev. Canon Paul Forsyth Wancura of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Interment followed at Greenfield Cemetery in Uniondale.
