Arline E. Harris

Former Riverhead Town resident Arline Elizabeth Harris of Queens died Dec. 18, 2012. She was 86.

She was born in Jamesport Feb. 25, 1926, to Margaret and Fred Harris and, as a young woman, was a member of First Baptist Church of Riverhead. She had been a nurse at Kings County Hospital for 40 years.

Family members described her as strong, resourceful and resilient. They said she enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean and in the U.S. and had taken “her ultimate vacation” to the Holy Land.

Ms. Harris is survived by her daughter, Diane Atkins; her sisters, Blanch, Mabel Martin and Mary Leggs; four foster children; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brothers, Clarence, Russell, Hollis, Fred and George.

A service was held Dec. 22 at J. Foster Phillips Funeral Home in Jamaica, N.Y., Bishop Mitchell Hudson officiating. Interment was at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Farmingdale.
