Harold Benjamin Mason Sr.

Harold Benjamin Mason Sr. of Riverhead died Dec. 15, 2012, at the age of 82.

He was born in Riverhead June 24, 1930, to Blanche (James) and Charles Mason and graduated from Riverhead High School in 1949. He married Yvonne McAllister of Wilson, N.C., on March 9, 1974.

Mr. Mason worked for the Paul, Bruce & Brian Sanitation Department in Westhampton Beach in the early 1960s and retired in 1996 from the Westhampton Beach Department of Public Works, where he’d worked as a foreman for 28 years.

He enjoyed playing the lottery and taking occasional trips to Atlantic City, according to family members. They described him as a friendly and caring person who did not hesitate to help others.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife; his daughter, Myra, and son, Harold Jr.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by his brothers, Carl, Raymond, Walter and Charles, and his sister, Gertrude.

Viewing and a service took place Dec. 22 at Riverhead’s Galilee Church of God in Christ, Pastor Roy Pennon officiating. Arrangements were handled by Seay Memorial Chapel in Riverhead.
