Cops: Flanders man drove drunk with child in car

A 32-year-old Flanders man is facing drunken driving and child endangerment charges after he was caught driving drunk on Flanders Road with an 8-year-old child in the car just after midnight Tuesday, police said.

Cristobal Espinoza was stopped near Pleasure Drive on Flanders Road about 12:10 a.m. after he was seen failing to stay in his traffic lane, Southampton Town police said.

An investigation found Mr. Espinoza was driving drunk with an 8-year-old boy in the back seat of the car, police said.

Mr. Espinoza was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a felony under Leandra’s Law, and endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.

He was taken to Southampton Town police headquarters, processed and held for morning arraignment.

The child was returned to his mother, police said.
